What does my BMW mean to me? This is simply not an easy question to answer. I have thought about this for a while now, and I have decided that it is not about the BMW per se—but more about what it represents.
My father worked for a big automotive company and went to work diligently every day, making sure that there was food on the table and clothes on my back. I never wanted for anything; however, no matter how hard my dad worked, he never really seemed to get ahead.
Shortly before he retired, he ordered the car of his dreams, a car that seemed impossible to obtain…then he retired and ended up canceling his car because he thought it was too much to handle during retirement. He thought that there would be time to save a little more, and that there was always more time…
As we all know, time is a cursed beast. My father passed away from a terrible disease a couple of years later at the age of 62 (too young), and he never did have the car of his dreams.
He worked his whole life to support his family and never really got what he wanted, what he worked so hard to try and obtain. There was always a little bit more time, there was always tomorrow, and we could always save just a little more.
I learned a lot from my father: work very hard, support your family, and always try to do what is right. I also learned that life is too short. You never know what is around the corner and what the future might hold for you.
You really do need to be smart with money, but you also have to realize that you can’t take it with you. You need to live.
To me, the BMW represents the ability to live, to take risks, to never quit, and to work hard—it also means that you need to enjoy life and the journey…and why not take that journey in a beautiful BMW 535 Xi.
